LG Opens New Mobile Phone Plant in Brazil
July 28, 2005
LG organized an event on July 20 to mark the completion of construction on a new mobile phone plant in Taubate, Brazil. The plant will have an eventual annual production capacity of six million units, which will include CDMA and GSM models. Phones produced at the plant will not only be sold on the domestic Brazilian market, but also in 16 other Latin America countries. With the addition of the plant in Taubate, LG has production plants in five countries, including Korea, China, Mexico, India and Brazil. LG is aggressively targeting the Brazilian mobile phone market. In 2004 it signed a contract with Brazil's largest CDMA operator VIVA to supply CDMA handsets.
